i just spent a week reading nonstop, and finished seven books in seven days. i feel exhausted (in a good way), and at the same time, amazing. that is exactly why i have decided to sign up for another reading challenge, held once every year in august – arc (you guessed it) august.
#arcaugust2019 is the brainchild of octavia @ read. sleep. repeat. this is how it works:
i’m so excited for this and i hope by signing up, i can motivate myself to read some of the review copies i’ve received. (i have a bad habit of leaving them until the last minute, and reading them in a rush.)
disclaimer: all of the books listed below are sent to me in exchange for honest reviews.
SHE’S THE WORST BY LAUREN SPIELLER
expected publication: september 3, 2019 ; okay, we get books about siblings in the young adult genre all the time – but they’re usually about families in general, and don’t just focus on the relationship between two siblings. i have a younger sister myself, and really, sometimes i just think she’s the worst. i’m really looking forward to seeing how the love-hate relationship between sisters will be portrayed in this novel!
I’M A GAY WIZARD BY V.S. SANTONI
expected publication: october 29, 2019 ; guys, guys, guys – would you just look at that cover! i love the curly script font and the vibrant colors so much 😀 i actually can’t wait to read this because there’s magic (my inner potterhead is screaming in excitement) and gay rep! the average rating for this book is 3.11 stars though (which is kind of low?), and feeling a tad bit curious, i read some reviews – people either gave it five stars, or just one – that’s kind of extreme. i really hope it works out for me!
NOT HUNGRY BY KATE KARYUS QUINN
expected publication: august 1, 2019 ; not hungry is about eating disorders, which i haven’t read a lot about. the only book i’ve read with a character who has an eating disorder is pretty little liars (hanna marin struggles with bulimia and binge-eating.), and i think that was handled quite poorly. with eating disorders becoming more common than ever in the real world, i’d like to educate myself on the topic, and i can’t wait to see how it’s explored in poetry form.
THE SIN SOLDIERS BY TRACY AUERBACH
expected publication: july 23, 2019 ; science fiction! the genre i claim as one of my favorites, but don’t read enough of. what first drew me to this book was the cover with its colorful watercolor splashes which contrast beautifully with the dark background (okay this is starting to sound like an art commentary). after reading the synopsis, i got even more intrigued – chemicals, coding and gay rep? sign me up!
MICHIGAN VS. THE BOYS BY CARRIE S. ALLEN
expected publication: october 1, 2019 ; michigan vs the boys features a female athlete who works hard for what she loves. on top of that, it explores the topics of feminism and toxic masculinity – i’m completely sold. i’m a huge fan of kids can press titles, and i have really high expectations for this!
HAVE A LITTLE FAITH IN ME BY SONIA HARTL
expected publication: september 3, 2019 ; fake-to-real relationships is one of my favorite tropes (to all the boys i’ve loved before! the fill-in boyfriend!) and so is best friends to lovers (love, rosie! anna and the french kiss!). both of them are present in this book, and i have a feeling that i’m going to love this to bits 😀
that’s all! i’m only aiming for six arcs, because i have some required reading to complete for the summer Σ(TωT*) and i want to leave some space for books of my own choice as well.
have you signed up for #arcaugust 2019? is it your first time participating? what will you read? let me know in the comments!
SEVEN BOOKS! IN SEVEN DAYS!!! GURLLLL 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Also these ARCs sound amazing, pls read them all so I can read your reviews – ESP I’m a Gay Wizard bc I feel like gay rep is what the HP series was missing!

i’m actually surprised i managed to do that! (i pulled a few all-nighters 🤫🤫)
i read the harry potter series before i was introduced to diverse fiction, so i didn’t know what i was missing then. i’m a gay wizard is a dream come true for me, and i hope it’ll be worth my excitement 😀

aww audrey, you’re too kind, thank you! i’m really looking forward to reading both she’s the worst and i’m a gay wizard, which is great, because usually i lose interest by the time i receive the arc i requested for, but that didn’t happen for me this time 😀 thanks for dropping by!

I really want to join ARC August, but I don’t think I will have the time 😦 That being said, She’s The Worst sounds super relateable (I have a younger sister too…) and Michigan vs the Boys sounds awesome. Good luck with your TBR!

aww, that’s such a shame, but it’s alright – there’ll always be a next time right? 🙂 glad to know i’m not the only elder sister who sometimes simply can’t stand her little sister 😂 and thank you so much, tasya! ❤
