my precious child is one year old today!!!

it’s been a year since i switched over to wordpress and started blogging here, and over the past twelve months, i’ve made amazing friends, shared my thoughts on books and life in general, and even revived my old bookstagram account (which happened yesterday, to be exact). i am blessed beyond belief to be part of such a loving and supportive book blogging community, and feel so grateful for all the lovely people who have been here to cheer me on.

what inspired your blog name and the adorable graphics you made?

first off, thank you so much for your compliments ♡ you two are too sweet!

i’m a huge fan of the malaysian youtube channel dumpling soda, and i’ve always found its name super adorable. i loved how two completely unrelated food items, “dumpling” and “soda”, could form such an unexpectedly cute combination when put together, and i decided that when i moved blogs, i would be doing something similar with the name.

the summer before i started this blog, i traveled to australia with my classmates, where we went overnight camping, and feasted on marshmallows around our campfire while looking up at the stars that formed the southern cross. these are some of my fondest memories, which is the reason why marshmallows will always hold a special place in my heart.

pudding is also one of my all-time favorite foods – especially crème caramel, crème brûlée, purin, shuang pi nai (雙皮奶) and hokkaido 3.6 milk pudding. i tried putting the word together with “marshmallow”, and since it had a nice ring to it, i decided that’s what i’d christen my blog ❤

as for the graphics – i have always loved creating digital art, and a while back, i also helped several people design graphics for their blogs. i thought it would be fun to do my own graphics based on my blog name too – and i ended up with these pastel colored illustrations! they came out a lot better than i expected, and i really like them – this is the longest i have gone without a blog rebrand.

What is your favorite font?

this is such a hard question!

i have so many favorites, so it’s hard for me to pick just one! my favorite serif font is probably georgia. as for sans serif fonts – karla, montserrat and poppins are all equally great in my opinion. as for cursive fonts, i love the just awesome script. (clearly, i have a very unhealthy obsession with fonts. 😂)

what inspires you to write? love your blog btw!

honestly, i am not entirely sure. (i’m so happy you love my blog!)

sometimes i get many ideas all at once and out of nowhere, and at other times, i get stuck and cannot come up with anything at all. i think reading other people’s book blogs is one of the best ways to get inspired, because they write so passionately about books and it really gets you thinking about your recent reads and what you like about them. showers are also good opportunities for brainstorming ideas for blog posts – i have no idea why, but my brain always seems to work better in the bathroom.

How did you become inspired to become a book blogger?

i joined goodreads in 2013 and did not use it actively back then, but almost every time i posted a reading update, someone would leave a comment about their own experience with whatever book i was reading. i loved the discussion and the community, and i found out that many of my goodreads friends actually had their own platforms where they could review and talk about books whenever they liked. that was when i started reading book blogs.

cait’s blog, paper fury, is one of the first blogs i started following, and scrolling through the comments section, i started exploring other people’s blogs too. i was intrigued by the idea of having my very own corner of the internet for creating bookish content and doing what i love, and half a year later, i finally gathered up my courage and started my very first book blog – sugarié world, where i called myself sugarié (please, please, please do not look at my badly written posts or the “about me”).

i continue to be inspired by other book bloggers every single day, and i’m so glad to have decided to embark on this blogging journey because it’s hands down one of the best decisions i have ever made.

what has been your favorite part of blogging?

the bookish community is definitely my favorite part of blogging.

this is one of the most open-minded, supportive, and caring online communities i have ever been a part of. while everyone here shares a passion for literature, it’s obvious that it is not the only thing they care about. most members of the bookish community are incredibly nice, and often check on each other – this has motivated me to be a better person and show more attention to what other people are going through. the community has also educated me about the importance of diversity, intersectionality and mental health, and opened my eyes to all sorts of things i wouldn’t have known about on my own. last but not least, i get to talk about books with like-minded people, which is something i rarely get to do in real life.

once again, i’m so thankful for all the love and support you all have showered marshmallow pudding with in one way or another, and i cannot wait to see what the future has in store for us!

(i meant to post this tomorrow buuut i couldn’t resist doing so today because it’s honestly been too long!) hello everyone ♡ today marks one year since i started blogging on marshmallow pudding and also one day since my decision to restart this account. throughout my blogging journey, everyone has been nothing but kind and supportive and i’m so happy to be part of such a loving community. here’s to many more years of wonderful bookish conversations 💫 (this picture was taken last year when my friends and i were making pom-pom bookmark samples for our school’s book week workshops. the view from our school library is so beautiful – we can see all the skyscrapers in hong kong’s central business district!! – and i’m looking forward to going back once school resumes!)

  1. Awww, the story behind your blog name is so adorable!! My favourite thing about blogging is the community too, and learning about other books and experiences. Especially because I have few friends IRL who read a lot/want to talk about books! Happy blogiversary!

      my situation is really similar to yours – most of my friends never read, and the ones who read have tastes which are very different from mine. the internet and the book blogging community is such an incredible place, and i'm so happy to have found like-minded people here! 😀

  2. Whooo congrats on your blogiversary!! I love how you came up with your blog name and your whole theme is just *chefs kiss* I love those fonts, I’m super partial to scripts – I have a ton on my computer that I love, it’s sometimes difficult to remember to limit myself for the sake of cohesiveness 😂I definitely love the bookish community and it’s one of the reasons why I keep coming back to blogging even when I take random hiatuses because of school – in terms of posts, my favorites are still reviews even though they’re not the most popular. There’s something really satisfying about being able to present my thoughts on a book in a somewhat coherent manner 😅
    As for pudding – PURIN – I used to get it all the time at 7-Eleven when I visited Taiwan and it was so good 😍😍

    1. same, i have so many different fonts stored on my computer too, but i can never use all of them together, which is a shame. 😦 fonts are such an underrated form of art, and i’m so obsessed. also, i agree that writing reviews is super satisfying (although it takes me so long to write one that’s full-length!) and it’s an amazing way to introduce others to different books. and 7-11 purin is the best! in hong kong, they sell the morinaga ones, and they taste so good 😍

      i mostly use autodesk sketchbook to draw graphics on my phone. it's free on the app store, and it has such a wide assortment of pens and tools! i cannot wait to see the digital art you create 😀

  4. chloe!! congrats friend, happy blogiversary!!! i completely missed your q&a ahhh sorry! still, i loved reading your answers! they were all cute and lovely, especially the story behind your blog name! i love it (and your graphics) sooo much!! also! the part about the book community – could not agree more! i haven’t been here long (i’ve said this million times by now haha) but i’ve already experienced the love and just the *sheer openness* that everyone in here has! i love it 💖and even though i’m a new follower, i already love love love your blog, and i wish you many more years of fun-filled blogging! 💖

    ps: pudding! rice pudding (i call it kheer) is my absolute favorite pudding and also one of my favorite indian desserts!

      i haven't tried kheer before, but i really hope i get the chance soon because it looks delicious! i just looked it up on google and it seems like some indian restaurants around me have that on their menu 😀
